1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills—from whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth — Psalm 121:1-2, NKJV.
This is Kevin William Rascoe, and welcome to my weekly devotional/blog.
Today’s scripture: “Mountains surround Zion and Mount Moriah. During the times of the feasts, the most common and popular direction from which to approach Jerusalem was from the east, on the Mount of Olives.
“Zion and Moriah are hills upon which the City of David and the Temple were constructed. Once a pilgrim saw the hill of the Lord, he or she felt inner strength and help.” — The Perry Stone Study Bible.
Many decades ago, my late mother told me always to recite Psalm 121 when I was facing a challenge in my life.
So, in difficult times, the psalm instructs us to lift our heads and focus on what’s above, which is the Lord, our God; however, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that psychologists have studied and noted that our body gestures can help to change our mindset.
“Depression is often expressed through the body in reduced movement, slumped shoulders, and a lowered gaze. Participants assigned to a slouched posture in the study reported more negative thoughts and used language tied to sadness and helplessness.
“Though good posture won’t reverse depression on its own, it can help shift physical cues that reinforce low mood.” — Sonia Garcia, Co-founder & Chief Growth Officer at Amae Health.
THE MESSAGE: Keep an upright posture, lift your head, and focus on Him, because what you’re looking at can elevate or lower you.
The most notable example: Because of fear, Peter took his eyes off the Son of God, and he fell (Matt. 14:30).
And with that, until next time, God bless!

If you haven’t accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior and repented of your sins, then do so now because there is no guarantee you’ll have another opportunity tomorrow (Romans 10:9-10).
