WHY YOU GET A RETURN ON YOUR THOUGHTS AND WORDS

Spread the love

People often wonder why things are happening in their lives, but the following gives a great explanation:

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. – Galatians 6:7, NKJV

However, there are many who’ve failed to link their shortcomings to that scripture.

In this post, I’ve created a fictitious story and used the law of reaping and sowing so you might evaluate your own life after reading this blog.

I’ll also look at biblical scriptures pertaining to thoughts and words. So, let’s begin and eavesdrop on Joshua’s thoughts.

Thinking and sowing

Joshua sat in his cubicle across from his colleague, Abe, and listened for the umpteen time about Abe’s high school memories.

Joshua thought: Now he’s about to laugh hysterically. Yep, there he goes. The idiot, may I add, with the enormous head. He can’t contain himself.

Joshua released a fictitious smile and giggled. “Anyway, Abe, we better get back to work.” If he only knew how I feel about him. Life… I got a dead-end job, and I have to deal with this idiot every day.

For the umpteen time, Joshua has planted another evil seed, and this one is called the seed of ridicule.

In 2020, a team of psychology experts at Queens’ University in Canada did a study that reported that the average person has over 6,000 thoughts every day, and I have a feeling some of those are bad thoughts, like Joshua’s.

25 For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, and what I dreaded has happened to me.
26 I am not at ease, nor am I quiet; I have no rest, for trouble comes.” – Job 3:25-26, NKJV

And Jesus said, “All these evil things come from within and defile a man.” – Matthew 7:23, NKJV.

Saying and sowing

A few hours later, Abe sat down at his cubicle. Joshua eyed him and observed a smirk surfacing on Abe’s face.

Joshua could feel that Abe wanted to say something, so Joshua turned his head and pretended to focus on the monitor of his computer.

“Hey, Joshua. I just saw a classmate on my social media page. I remember when…”

“No, no. Not another reminiscent statement. I don’t want to hear a single word about any high school memories. You know what’s funny?”

Abe stared and frowned; he didn’t say a word.

But Joshua did: “Your fat head… that’s what’s funny. Yes, I said it. And excuse me. I got some work to do.” Yes… I feel so much better!

After months of thinking badly about his coworker, Joshua said what was on his mind.

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. – Colossians 4:6, NKJV

The harvest of thoughts and words

At a traffic light, Joshua stared at his phone as he searched for jobs. Can’t find anything that pays enough. “My education was worthless.”

Someone behind him blew their horn. Joshua raised his head and clenched the steering wheel.

The driver said, “Idiot! Let’s go! The light is green.”

A homeless man sitting on the sidewalk said, “Yeah, go already! Are you brain dead or what?”

Joshua glared at the homeless man. “Probably mentally ill,” then he looked into his rearview mirror.

The driver behind him flashed an obscene gesture. He said, “Go, Dummy!”

Joshua gently placed his foot on the accelerator and drove away.

Later on that day

Joshua’s wife said, “How did you forget to take the trash out? You’re pathetic, Joshua. Sometimes, you ought to use that brain to think. Remember, God gave you one, so that would be a sensible thing to do.”

“Why are you ridiculing me? What’s wrong with you… and everybody else today?” What have I done to deserve this?

Words Can Hurt You

The old saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me,” doesn’t line up with the Word of God.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. – Proverbs 18:21, NKJV

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. – James 3:6, NKJV

An ungodly man digs up evil, and it is on his lips like a burning fire. – Proverbs 16:27, NKJV

Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. – James 3:10, NKJV

Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! – James 3:5, NKJV

There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health. – Proverbs 12:18, NKJV

Those scriptures reveal that words can hurt you.

Words are unseen and powerful but can break the physical structure of your body, destroy a sound mind, hinder your spiritual growth, and shatter the greatest dreams.

Examining and Taming the Tongue

Imagine if you could put your tongue under a microscope. Would it need an overhaul or fine-tuning?

If you’re one of the few who think your tongue looks okay after examining it, read the following statements and see if they sound familiar.

I made a stupid mistake. Oh, I can’t remember it. You’re so dumb. Stupid me. Good things never happen to me. They’re worthless.

If you use any of these statements or something similar, then start with Charles Capps’ book “Creative Power” which incorporates scriptures that will positively change your life.

Summarizing the return on thoughts and words

Hopefully, my story showed you how your words can come back to haunt you.

I conclude by saying that what you say will one day manifest, good or bad; however, use the Word of God to tame your tongue and see the best eventually manifest.
