Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter days. – Proverbs 19:20, NKJV
This is Kevin William Rascoe and welcome to my weekly devotion.
The Traveler
There once was a traveling man named Paul who took a road trip from Indiana to Seattle.
I’ve never driven this route before, but I got my GPS… “I’ll make it.”
Hours later
Paul came to a dead-end road and glanced at his cell phone. “No service… dang.”
He turned around and drove a few miles. Paul watched the sun disappear behind a steep hill. He turned his headlights on and pulled over to a run-down gas station.
While walking toward it, Paul looked through the window and saw a cashier. Hopefully, they sell maps. He opened the door.
The gentleman smiled. “Hey, sir, welcome to WanderTown.”
Paul squinted and smirked. “What kind of name is that for a town?”
“Just a name; I gotta funny feeling you’re lost… where you headed? I can help you out.”
Paul frowned. “Nah, I just need a map.”
“We out of them… sorry.”
“What?”
“Again, sorry. But I can steer you in the right direction.”
Paul pulled his phone out of his back pocket. “Yes… I got service.”
“I can tell you how to get to where you going. I know these roads like the…”
“Nah, I’m good.” Paul exited the gas station and looked at his phone. “Dang, no service again.”
Paul turned toward the glass doors of the gas station and looked at the cashier. The man grinned and waved. Paul looked at the sky and thought, It sure is getting dark. Oh, well. I’ll find my way to Seattle.
THE MESSAGE: Always listen to instructions from a wise person who has already traveled the road you have never seen before.
Sometimes, the information from a phone can’t steer you in the right direction. It takes a real human being who can put you on the right path so you can get to your God-given destination.
