THE EXPECTANT

And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment. — Matthew 8:13, ESV.

This is Kevin William Rascoe, and welcome to my weekly devotional/blog.

Daily, I expect certain things to happen. I turn the shower knob and expect to see water; I sit in my comfortable office chair and trust it will hold me. I place my key in the ignition and believe my car will start and stop when I press the brake. But sometimes, after a prayer, I doubt rather than expect it will come to pass.

Today’s Scripture: “This Roman centurion commanded 100 men in a Roman army and understood military authority. His servant was sick, and he recognized the authority of Christ’s words.” — The Perry Stone Study Bible.

The Roman centurion truly believed in the Lord’s Word, a believer, an “expectant.”

However, surrounded by so many comforts, I sometimes fall into the trap of relying on and trusting things more than God, who I should expect to answer my prayers, and I’m sure I’m not alone.

We need to be more like Moses, who expected the Red Sea to divide and close on a resilient enemy (Ex. 14:21), or like blind Bartimaeus, who called out and expected Jesus to restore his eyesight, and it happened (Mark 10:52).

And I wonder how much faster we would receive answers to some of our prayers if we believed and expected what we prayed for.

Suggestion: Write down what you expect and trust to happen every day that’s part of your routine, and focus on the feeling of expectation. Then transfer that feeling to what you have asked God for; visualize it coming to pass.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for what You have done for us, and we ask You to forgive us for any doubt we might have after prayer, and help us be like the biblical figures who expected a miracle. You did it for them back then, so we know You’re the same God who can do it for us today, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.

Until next time, God bless!

If you haven’t accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior and repented of your sins, then do so now because there is no guarantee you’ll have another opportunity tomorrow (Rom. 10:9-10).

The youth need to read children’s books. So, why not give them a children’s Christian book that’s written for a child but contains a lesson for all? ORDER TODAY: Episode 3.
